What you get from it
What it does
Noble Gas is a Chrome Extension that rewrites visible text on any webpage using Google's Gemini 4 Argon model. The project describes Argon as particularly strong at prose, which makes it well suited to tightening up the kind of verbose, low-effort writing LLMs often produce. You select or encounter slop in the browser; Noble Gas sends it to the API and returns a more readable, concise version in place.
It works across sites rather than being tied to one editor or platform, so the same rewrite pass applies wherever the text lives — documentation pages, blog posts, internal tools, or generated reports pasted into a web UI.
Who it helps
The natural audience is anyone who reads or triages AI-generated content in the browser: developers skimming generated docs, editors cleaning up draft copy, analysts working through LLM-summarized material. If you regularly hit walls of filler prose and want a quick readability pass without leaving the tab, this covers that workflow.
Getting started
You need your own Gemini API key; the extension does not bundle access to the model.
Two install paths are documented:
- Download the latest prebuilt ZIP from the repository's releases, unzip it, open
chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, then use Load unpacked to point at the unzipped folder. - Clone the repo and run it as an unpacked dev extension, or build it yourself and follow step 1.
Noble Gas is not distributed through the Chrome Web Store, so installation stays manual and local.
Limits and costs
Because it calls the Gemini API, usage depends on your key's quota and pricing tier — those costs sit outside the extension and vary by plan. The MIT license covers the code itself, not free hosting or API access. As an unpacked extension, updates require re-downloading or rebuilding rather than auto-update via the store. The project positions Argon as good-but-not-perfect for rewriting arbitrary slop, so expect occasional passes that still need a human edit.
